Community Highlights
In all of our community programming, we aspire to build meaningful community now and always. The heart of our community lies in the relationships we create with one another, and our one-off community programming provides creative, open, and responsive spaces to explore these relationships. Take a look at some examples of community programming and groups that exemplify these spaces, and make sure to keep an eye out for upcoming programs on our program calendar.
Annual Camping Trip
Our annual summer camping trip is geared towards everyone in the Kavana community -- kids and adults alike. This is a wonderful opportunity to deepen connections by getting to know folks who love camping, but whom you might not otherwise cross paths with. This weekend is a sweet mix of community activities (shared meals, Shabbat prayer), and flexible down time to enjoy nature, games and more. Registration opens for Kavana Partners each year in the spring, and opens to everyone in June. Email us to get the registration link!
Summer Socials
During the summertime, when our program calendar concludes and our staff works on our programs for the following year, our partners organize programs to socially gather with Kavana community members that live in their neighborhoods. It’s a great way to get know your neighbors better, and make new and easy connections! If you’re a Kavana partner and aren’t a part of your partner neighborhood listserv yet, let us know!
Tikkun Olam
Members of the Kavana community are passionate about being responsive to the needs of our greater communities. Tikkun Olam reminds us to work to make the world a better place. At Kavana this inspires us to be environmentally conscious, and socially aware to support people or groups in need. At present, Kavana community members are partnering with the Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice NW, engaging in a pen-pal partnership with support from Matir Asurim, and inviting others to join them for political action, including attending workshops, rallies, and more.
Caregiving Group
This group is open to all Kavana Partners and active participants who are presently providing care for a loved one who is dealing with chronic illness, challenges of aging, dementia, or similar. You may be a caregiver to someone within the walls of your home or caregiving from any distance for a loved one.
We welcome caregivers of all ages, whether you care for a spouse, partner, parent, family member or friend. You are welcome to reach out if you’d like to learn more.
