A Year in Review + Thanks for Your Support

As we reflect back on 2021, there is no doubt that this year has been filled with ups and downs, challenges and triumphs. That said, our community has made the most of it, coming together through a wide array of in-person and online events. During 2021, Kavana deepened focus on meeting people’s core needs for communal, emotional, and spiritual support. And when we did find ways to gather -- whether in virtual space, in backyards and parks, through our powerful High Holiday experiences, etc. -- it was magical! See below for snapshots of some incredibly beautiful experiences that we shared during 2021.

Kavana supported so many varied and beautiful life cycle events this year... weddings, baby namings, conversions, and especially many b'nai mitzvah! Pictured above - two of our b'nai mitzvah students: Ellis, leading Friday night table rituals and receiving blessings from his parents around the Shabbat dinner table, and Olivia working on her mitzvah project, in which she collected over 100 cases of food for an animal shelter.

The incredible PNW Summer days served as a backdrop for some really meaningful and deep conversations, for spiritual gatherings, and for music!

As we approached the High Holidays, Covid-19 pushed us to think outside of the box and look for a venue that could allow us to create both in-person (indoors and outdoors) and virtual experiences for our community, which led to elevated experiences for so many participants!

This Fall, we bundled up to do as much in-person outdoor programming as possible, including the Havdalah Club pictured above! Now, between wintery weather and the Omicron surge, we anticipate shifting to more online programming for the next couple of months... but we are still planning for spring and summer anticipating that we'll be back in person soon!

As we near the end of 2021, bracing for yet another wave of ups and downs, we acknowledge that this is a hard time. We so appreciate the Kavana community for continuing to show such incredible flexibility and willingness to go with the flow! When things feel so heavy and hard, we hope that you can take a walk down memory lane, like we just did, to remember all of the amazing moments that we share together as a community, and trust that many more incredible moments are on the horizon.
